about

Hello! Thank you so much for buying Volume 4 of our Songs of Isolation series. Obviously times have changed since we began this project, and slowly life is returning to normal. Most pertinently for us, live music is back and people are once again able to enjoy the magic of seeing great musicians playing fabulous songs.

As such we have tried to reflect that in both the music and artwork presented here.

For this volume we have gone back the Crawdaddy Club Richmond’s roots to bring you some of the very best in British R’n’B, the music that had its gestation in the Crawdaddy’s south west corner of London. On Volume 4 we have 60s legends The Downliners Sect alongside more contemporary greats such as Robin Bibi.

Some of the biggest names in modern British blues rock – Oli Brown, Ash Wilson and When Rivers Meet rub shoulders alongside seasoned favourites like The Blue Bishops to make up what we hope is a compilation that rocks, rolls and hopefully serves as an enjoyable soundtrack to the freedoms we are once again able to enjoy.

Now that Lockdown has, hopefully , been and gone, the initial impact of a call to arms for the NHS has undoubtedly subsided, but the heroes in the service are still at their stations, battling away to keep Covid at bay, amongst their many other great responsibilities.

The profound value of the NHS was once again brought home to us in a very personal way when our founder, Mike Rivers, found himself in hospital on a number of occasions over lockdown with a series of non-Covid illnesses. That he was able to attend the Richmond Riverside Music Festival (from which these photos were taken) having been so ill was
testament not only to Mike’s fortitude, but also to the amazing care and attention afforded him by the NHS frontline workers.

It has been a great pleasure for myself, Mike Rivers, Mark Ede and Jon Astley to bring you this series of albums, and we hope you have enjoyed every one of them. Quite wonderfully, we have managed to raise a few thousand pounds for NHS Healthcare Workers Foundation in the process.

We thank every one of you for joining us on this ride over the last two years. We also thank all the brilliant musicians and producers and behind-the-scenes- people who have helped bring these albums together. We may well see you some time for Volume 5, but for now sit back and enjoy some more fabulous music, brought to you by Songs Of Isolation.
